He had no sense of being a star voyager. He couldn't see any stars at all.
The earth was eight thousand miles in diameter and he was only a hundred miles above it. He knew what it was going to look like in any case. He had seen it all in photographs taken from the satellites. It had all been flashed on the screens for him. Even the view had been simulated. Yes . . . that's the way they said it would look . . .
What's the very first thing you remember?
Seeing the ocean for the first time, touching sand, smelling salt on the cold wind.
Have you experienced weightlessness on an A340 Airbus?
Negative g-forces are the reason I fly. That, and the view. I hope to avoid total weightlessness!
Is sound more important to you, or smell?
Sound is something I could do without. But I'm currently trying to phase music back into my life.
In terms of having your own children, are you more of a skeptic or a believer of miracles or in absolutes?
A skeptic who hopes to be proved wrong -- in other words, constantly disappointed.
Is falling strictly an individual experience?
I think the fear of falling is universal -- we've all woken up with a jolt -- but the experience is very personal.
What happens to the horizon line in Zero-G? Will mirrors still reflect if we technically can't rely on Renaissance perspective?
You can always turn on the forward-facing camera. The mobile phone cam is quickly displacing the mirrored compact.
Is distance relative?
The way back is always faster than the way there, and the journey shared always seems quicker.
Would you rather die of extreme heat or extreme cold?
heat.
Do you ever get tired of looking?
sometimes, change of perspective always fixes that.

What are you looking forward to?
Winter.
